Chetumal Travel Guide, Mexico

The city of Chetumal is considered to be the entry gate for Central America from the country of Mexico. The city of Chetumal is one of those rare cities in Mexico which have preserved the rare culture of Mexico and also have progressed with the progressing planet. This city presents the perfect blend of culture and modernization which any tourist will surely appreciate. If you want to feel the historical culture of Chetumal then all you need to do is visit the heart of the city which is also famous by the name of Old Chetumal. This area of the city is famous for its monuments which resemble the English styled architecture that are built of quality wood and painted with beautiful selection of paint.

The city of Chetumal is also called as the city where the mixing of races started. As per the famous legendary, many centuries back a famous Spanish King Gonzalo Guerrero successfully married the Princes of Mayan famous by the name of Zani Ha. This was the time when these two cultures started to interact with each other and as a result the first ever mix between two cultures happened in this city itself.

The city of Chetumal is also the capital for eastern state of Mexico, Quintana Roo. As per the census of year 2005 the city of Chetumal had the population of around 137000 inhabitants. Being the capital city for the state of Quintana Roo, the city of Chetumal has quickly grown as an important political hub for Mexico and also as an important tourist hot spot due to the perfect collection of flora and fauna, historical monuments, beautiful sea sides, lagoons, traditional festivals.

The only natural disadvantage which the city of Chetumal suffers from are category five cyclones which regularly hit the city and somehow kick back all the growth that the city is able to accomplish. Some of the famous cyclones which have hit the city in the past are Hurricane Dean and Hurricane Janet. They caused heavy landslides during the year of 1955 and then during the year of 2007 thus affecting heavily the traffic plus tourism of the city. It is always recommended that you firstly enquire thoroughly with the climate department of the city about the forthcoming climate and then only schedule your visit for the city.
