Denpasar Sights and Landmarks Guide, Indonesia

Being part of the popular Bali, Indonesia, Denpasar has very many sights to cater to the needs of people around the place and various tourists from Asia and the rest of the world.

The people of Denpasar are used to riding motorbikes just to take a tour around the city.  The place is heavily congested, but remains to post a pleasant sight to people travelling around it.  Denpasar is dominated by family compounds and has a few shopping malls in it.

Though predominantly catering to the home of its people, the city is also rich in beautiful sights where tourists can have a handful of experiences to bring home with them.  Their few but fulfilling places depict their cultural traditions as Indonesians.

Included on the list of  these famous tourist destinations are:·

Bali Museum.  The museum is considered one of Denpasar’s significant tourist destinations.  It is divided into four major buildings - the Main Building and the First, Second and Third Pavilions.  The Main Building found at the back of the entrance courtyard houses prehistoric items of Bali including antique household utensils in the second floor.  The First Pavilion displays Balinese textiles, one of the main products sold in the area.  Religious bits and pieces are seen in the Karangesam- style 18th century palace, the Second Pavilion.  The third Pavilion, on the last end embraces theatrical artifacts such as masks and puppets.  They are open Sundays to Thursdays from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM and Fridays from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM.

 ·   Puputan Square.  The square depicts Indonesian history and is located just at the downtown of Denpasar.  The place commemorates the puputan (death) of the Rajah of Badung and hundreds of his subjects.  They were all dressed in white and decided to kill themselves as refusal to present themselves to Dutch invaders.

·   Pasar Badung.  This is considered Denpasar’s largest market.  The market is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is a place for  trading of garments like batiks and other forms of clothing.  You could have a tour guide who will help you around the place.  Also found on the west part of the narrow river is the Pasar Kumbasari where you can find cheaper souvenir items like handicrafts and clothes.
