Guayaquil Travel Guide, Ecuador

The city of Guayaquil is a port city and also the most populous city for Ecuador. Officially, the city of Guayaquil is known by the name of Santiago de Guayaquil although the locals prefer the shorter version Guayaquil. This city is also the capital for Guayas Province.

Generally the climate of Guayaquil is hot and hence foreign tourists which come from colder regions might face problems though locals are used to such climate. The months between January to April experience heavy rainfall which many times results into severe floods. But from the month of May starts the unbearable hot temperatures. Variation in temperatures isn’t that huge throughout the year. The maximum average temperature is around 32 degree Celsius while the average minimum temperature is around 20 degree Celsius.

The city of Guayaquil wasn’t an important tourist destination some years back but lately the administration of Guayaquil has worked hard to improve the look and feel of this city thus helping the tourism industry of the city. Renovation of many historical monuments was completed, multiple parks were created, and many new markets with modern style shops were launched. All these changes took years for completion but slowly the city of Guayaquil became an important tourist destination for the nationals of Ecuador and for the foreign tourists.

The city of Guayaquil has always been an important trading city for Ecuador. Even today, the city of Guayaquil hasn’t lost its touch of trading and the locals excel in every kind of trading business, aquaculture, agriculture, and various other businesses. You will be surprised to know that even though the city of Guayaquil is the largest trading center for Ecuador still it has the highest rate of unemployment amongst all cities of Ecuador. The underemployment and unemployment rates are highest in the city of Guayaquil.

Standard yellow taxis and Taxi Amigos are available in the city of Guayaquil for those who want to move from one place to the other. Taxi Amigos are the un-marked taxis which you will have to call on your own as per your comfort. Usually the Taxi drivers tend to overcharge their clients and hence it is suggested that you decide the rates before hiring the taxi or better hire a taxi with a working meter so as to avoid giving away silly bucks.
