Vejle Travel Guide – The City of the Fjord

Its actual name comes from the old word ’wæthelæ’, which means ’fjord’, probably because of its location at a main crossroads at the fjord over Vejle River.

Vejle is supposed to have been founded in 1256, the year when the town was first mentioned as being established, but it is believed to be probably older.
