Crested Butte is a town in Gunnison County, Colorado, the United States. Formerly it was a coal mining town and now it is regarded as one of the most popular resorts in the state of Colorado. The Valley of Crested Butte is a great destination for skiers, hikers, bikers and snowboarders. It offers a full range of outdoor activities for all types of people.

It has a population of approximately 3000 people and the population varies in the peak season. Crested Butte has also been regarded as the wildflower capital of the state of Colorado. The Valley of Crested Butte was formerly used by the Ute Native Americans. Beaver trappers and surveyors were the first who explored this valley.

In the late 18th century, coal mines began to open in this area. Crested Butte also served as a great trading point and supply line for the surrounding areas. Coal mines, silver, ranching and tourism are the most popular industries of this area. Industrial development led to the increase in the population of this area.

Crested Butte attracts a large number of tourists from all over the world. The Valley of Crested Butte has something to offer to all. It offers separate outdoor activities for winter and summer. Some of the most popular outdoor activities of Crested Butte are snowboarding, mountain biking, fishing, hiking, skating, whitewater rafting, backpacking and skiing.

It features a big skiing area where enthusiastic skiers come from all over Colorado. Crested Butte also hosts a large number of multicultural festivals. Some of these festivals include mountain bike festival, rubber duck race and wild flower festivals. These festivals have great importance in the culture and history of this town. Being a popular ski resort, Crested Butte has also been selected as a set for many Hollywood movies including Snowball Express.

The town of Crested Butte is marked by different ethnic groups including Native American, African, Hispanic, Latino and Asians etc. Crested Butte offers great attractions and landscapes including Elk Mountain Lodge, Crested Butte Mountain Theatre, Crested Butte Mountain Heritage, Crested Butte Nordic Center & Ice Rink, Westwall Lodge, Kebler Pass, Mountain Bike Hall of Fame and Museum, Crested Butte Nordic Council and Crested Butte Country Club etc.

Getting around Crested Butte is great fun for the enthusiastic tourists. You can reach Crested Butte by road. It is also connected to the other nearby resorts through cable cars and chairlifts.
