This makes Dar es Salaam an important political hub as well as country’s important economical center too. The growth of Dar es Salaam has made it the richest city of Tanzania and no doubt it is the major city that actually drives the economy of Tanzania.

Dar es Salaam is very large in size and hence was divided into three different administrative regions which are being governed by three different local governments. These regions are Ilala region in central Dar es Salaam, Kinondoni region in the northern part of Dar es Salaam, and Temeke region in southern part of Dar es Salaam. As per the census of 2002 the population of Dar es Salaam was around 2500000 inhabitants. As per estimates the metropolitan population of Dar es Salaam will cross 5 million inhabitants by the year 2020.

Unfortunately the city of Dar es Salaam lost the tag of capital city somewhere in 1996 and the city of Dodoma was made the capital of Tanzania. Still the city of Dar es Salaam holds the rights to be the hub for all major political movements of the country and is also considered as the capital for the Dar es Salaam region which is the area that surrounds this region.

The temperature of this region remains hot throughout the year as it is situated very near to the equator. Normally the city of Dar es Salaam experience rainy seasons twice every year and the average rainfall through out the year is around 1100 mm. The two rainy seasons are divided as per the hours of rains experienced by the city. During the months between April to May the city of Dar es Salaam experiences long rains while the months of October and November experience shorter rains.

As pointed before Dar es Salaam is the major city for the economical growth of Tanzania. Dar es Salaam is also the hub for the transport system of Tanzania and hence an important landing point for many travelers. The growing economy of Dar es Salaam has helped the city curb down the poverty rates of the city when compared the those from the rest of the country.
