Quezon City Sights and Landmarks Guide, Philippines

The thriving metropolis that is Quezon City has a lot to offer the curious tourist who happens to visit its vast realm.  One-fourth of the city comprises Metro Manila which means there are plenty of places to see, explore and experience.  It’s time to check out what the city of the young has to offer its visitors.

The Heart of Metro Manila

Being at the center of Metro Manila, it’s easy to get to Quezon City and the same goes for getting around the area.  You can reach the city and go around it through Manila’s Metro Rail Transit or MRT lines 2 and 3. You can also take the metro’s available buses or taxis to take in the city’s sights.  Any adventurous tourist should also try riding the colorful jeepneys to go around the metro and get a unique perspective of the city.

Historical places

Never leave Quezon City without visiting the Quezon Memorial Circle which is the city’s icon. The circle pays tribute to the city’s founder Manuel L. Quezon.  This is where his remains lie encased in a bronze casket and a marble niche.   While you’re there, do visit the Quezon museum in the center of the circle.

Another historical place to visit is the Quezon City Hall that is home to some of the country’s important government agencies and this is where the historic signing of the new Philippine Constitution was held.  It also offers a breathtaking view of a man-made lagoon behind it.

Places of Culture

For a little bit of culture, do take the time and visit the Goethe Institute Gallery or the German Cultural Center.  This gallery showcases early and mid 19th century Philippine paintings, photographs and sculptures.

Another museum worth visiting is the Museo ng Buhay Pilipino or the Bahay Museo which is a museum that features the life of a traditional Filipino Christian though works made by Filipino artisans over the years.  This museum takes you back in time by showcasing furniture, farm tools, costumes and even preserved carriages that were prominently used in the past.

Other Tourist Attractions

For those into nature and preserving it, try visiting the Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife which is near the Quezon Memorial Circle.  This is Quezon City’s zoological and botanical garden where you can enjoy a leisurely walk around the park and admire the wildlife particularly the famous monkey-eating eagle.  This family environment offers a boat ride in its manmade lagoon and a playground for the kids.

Another great place to bring your family and friends is the La Mesa Eco Park.  This is the sight of the important La Mesa Dam which supplies water to the entire National Capital Region.  This echo park offers its visitors picnic grounds where you can lounge around and enjoy some outdoor grilling.  For the adventure seekers, there are challenging fitness and mountain bike trails in the area.  You can also enjoy a boat ride in the park’s lagoon or get close to nature by visiting the park’s flower terraces.
