Semarang Sights and Landmarks Guide, Indonesia

The city of Semarang (situated in the country of Indonesia) is famous for the mix of Chinese and Indonesian culture. The city of Semarang is also a port city with lush green surroundings and this has been another reason why the tourism industry of this city has grown immensely.

To start with one can visit Temple famous by the name of Sam Po Kong. Cheng Ho was a famous Chinese (also a Muslim) commander for the historical Ming Dynasty had visited the city of Semarang somewhere in the year of fifteenth century. Recently in the year of 2006 the local government celebrated anniversary number 600th of the visit which Cheng Ho had accomplished way back. During this memorable occasion the temple was completely renovated and this was the time when it started to attract more tourists again and again.

Indonesian National Record Museum (famous by the shorter version of MURI) is famous for huge number of manuscripts and sculptures which it possesses. Other famous museums in the city of Semarang are Mandala Bhakti, Ronggowarsito Museum, and Nyonya Meneer Museum. History lovers must visit these museums as they are highly popular amongst locals and tourists for their historical collection of manuscripts and sculptures.

Another famous tourist hot spot in the city of Semarang is Tugu Muda. This monument is famous due to its architecture and also due to the colonial buildings which surround the monument. Lawang Semu is amongst the few most well known Dutch buildings of the ones found around Tugu Muda. The meaning of the name Lawang Semu is 1000 doors.

Gereja Blenduk is one of the most famous churches of Semarang. It was built somewhere in the year of 1753 and it is amongst the few most historical churches for the city of Semarang. This church is famous for its baroque organ which one might not find in the rest of Indonesia.

Another famous tourist hot spot in the city is Taman Budaya Raden Saleh which is a huge garden located right in the center of the city. This garden is spread over an area of around 90000 square meters. It is famous amongst various families of Semarang as it has quickly become a healthy picnic hot spot.

Other famous tourist hot spots in the city of Semarang are Tanjung Mas, Simpang Lima, and Stasiun Tawang etc.
