Nuuk Travel Guide, Greenland

Nuuk is the capital and the second largest city of Greenland.  Strategically located at around 150 miles from the Arctic Circle, this place is famous for whale-watching endeavors.  Taking a trip to this city should be supported by detailed information pertinent to making the tour worthwhile.

Climate

Being situated near the Arctic Circle, it is relative that Nuuk offers one of the coldest climates in the world.  True to this relation, the city rarely or never encounters the humidity of the summer season that most people from tropical countries complain about.  In fact, its hottest months which are July and August record a temperature of 9.9 to 10.6 degrees Celsius.  That is very cold compared to other countries which may have that feel for their winter season.

Transport

A travel around the city may not be ideally done while walking.  This is because the cold breeze is something not all tourists could handle.   Even under many layers of clothing, you may not enjoy the nature while strolling to the heart of Nuuk.

Before you actually arrive in this place, you have to take travel by plane especially when you are coming from distant countries.  The most famous airport in Nuuk is the Air Greenland.  Taking air trips is luckily the only ideal transport that could take you to the place.

Festivities

Festivities in Nuuk could be enjoyed by people who love sports or even those who just want to satisfy their eyes.  Nuuk Marathon is conducted in the heart of the city where the route is a bit irregular.  Inclines are seen anywhere making the competition stiffer than regular marathons.  This event is usually held every August.

Another must-see event in Nuuk is its Snow Festival.  Much to the delight of viewers, this is not just an undertaking for the people to experience.  It is much more of an introduction to the talent of people who make sculptures out of snow.  This event started in 1994 and is now annually celebrated every February.

Attractions

Getting time out to visit Nuuk will provide you many recreational opportunities such as kayaking, skiing and dog sledding.  Other than these things however, the city is famous for its tourist spots.  One of the most important sceneries you could enjoy is its numerous museums.  If you want to explore its cultural heritage, you may go to the National Museum.   The Kunts Museum, on the other hand displays a variety of art works from world renowned artists.

Exploring Nuuk could be enjoyed at any time of the year.  For people experiencing hot and humid days in their countries, you may go to Nuuk to get a chance to feel the cold breeze.   For people who have enjoyed a share of cold seasons in their respective hometowns, you are not prohibited to take a visit to this remarkable city.
