Erstes Lied
Vom Barette schwankt die Feder,
wiegt und biegt im Winde sich.
Unser Wams aus Büffelleder
ist zerfetzt von Hieb und Stich.
Stich und Hieb, und ein Lieb,
muß ein, ja muß ein Landsknecht haben.

Unsre Linke auf dem Schwerte,
in der Rechten einen Spieß,
kämpfen wir, soweit die Erde,
bald für das und bald für dies.
Dies und das, Suff und Fraß,
muß ein, ja muß ein Landsknecht haben.

Ruhm und Beute zu gewinnen,
zieh'n wir mutig in die Schlacht.
Einmal müssen wir von hinnen,
lustig drum bei Tag und Nacht,
Nacht und Tag, was er mag,
muß ein, ja muß ein Landsknecht haben.

Landsknechtsleben, lustig Leben,
in der Schenke Tag und Nacht.
Sitzt ein fader Kerl daneben,
der nicht singt und der nicht lacht:
Schmeißt ihn raus, reines Haus
muß ein, ja muß ein Landsknecht haben.

Wenn wir dereinst liegenbleiben,
in der blutdurchtränkten Schlacht,
sollt ihr uns ein Kreuzlein schreiben
auf den tiefen dunklen Schacht.
Mit Trommeln viel und Pfeifenspiel
sollt ihr, ja sollt ihr uns begraben.

Text: H. v. Reder (1824-1909)

Melodie: Heinz Thun (*1914)
