Suva Travel Guide, Fiji

Suva Travel Guide - A piece of paradise

When thinking of Fiji, most people imagine a tropical paradise, and it is so. The Fiji archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, with its more than 300 islands, is a paradise for any holiday maker looking for an exotic place where they can relax and have fun. Suva is the capital of Fiji, and it is located on the island of Viti Revu, the country’s largest and most populous island. Suva lies on a beautiful sunny peninsula, and it is the perfect spot for tourists who want to enjoy the natural beauty of the Pacific seashores, and a cosmopolitan area with posh shopping centers, restaurants and bars. This Suva Travel Guide will give you a few useful tips that can help you plan your dream vacation in this amazing city.

Suva Travel Guide - Transport

Suva is Fiji’s administrative and political centre, so it is well connected to other cities in the country. Nausori International Airport is located 23 kilometers from the city. The island’s only other international airport is in Nadi, a three hour drive away from Suva. You can easily travel between the two cities with a rented a car or by bus. The Nausori Airport is a hub for Air Pacific, so naturally there are regular services operating between Fiji and many Asian and Pacific countries. You can easily catch a flight from Noumea in neighboring New Caledonia, or even flights from faraway cities like Los Angeles, for example.

Since Fiji is made up of so many islands, one of the main means of transport is by boat or ferry. From the port of Suva there are frequent services to Taveuni, Vanua Levu and other cities. If you prefer to travel on land, this Suva Travel Guide recommends that you take the bus. Intercity buses tend to be crowded, but it’s a great opportunity to admire the scenery and to meet the fascinating local people. Once you’ve arrived to Suva, you can easily get around on foot. The streets are clean and airy, and you can discover some interesting less mainstream tourist attractions. Taxis in the city are quite cheap, and tourists are encouraged to use them when going out at night.

Suva Travel Guide - Accommodation

Fiji is a popular tourist destination, so in the capital city there is a wide range of accommodation options to choose from. Backpackers should try one of the many hostels close to the city centre or the harbour. Waidroka Bay Resort is a charming hotel on the beach that offers both individual rooms and dorms. Suva Motor Inn, downtown, is another affordable hotel. Novotel is a comfortable mid-range hotel on the outskirts of Suva, with a beautiful secluded beach and a novelty floating restaurant. If you are willing to splurge, try out the Pearl South Pacific Hotel, an exclusive establishment with luxury facilities such as a spa, golf course, swimming pool and restaurant.
