Mysore History

Till 15th century the land on which Mysore is located was famous by the name of Puragere. The famous Mahishūru fort was constructed by the ruler Chamaraja Wodeyar III somewhere in 1524 and later his son Chamaraja Wodeyar IV was the one who ruled this region. Slowly the Vijayanagar Empire started to decline somewhere and by the year 1565 it lost control of this region totally. This is when Mysore started to work as sovereign state. Later on, the famous ruler Tipu Sultan took control of Mysore. Under Tipu’s rule most of the Mysore was re-established as he wanted to remove any traces of the Wodeyar rule.
