Duisburg History

On March 8 1921, the French Infantry occupied Duisburg as payment for damages incurred during the 1st World War. During the 2nd World War, Duisburg became a chief target of Allied bombers because they knew the city is a location for chemical, steel and iron industries. The city became the most violently bombed German city. On June 12 and 13 1941, Duisburg was attacked by British bombers with 445 tons of bombs. Another 1,599 tons of bombs were released in the city on the 12th and 13th of May 1943. During these bombings a total of 96,000 residents became homeless and countless of people lost their lives....
