Great clubs and the best parties in Sofia, Bulgaria

Sofia, Bulgaria is a city filled with people who enjoy a good party, so it is easy to find bars and cafes open around the clock and filled. Licensing laws do not exist here, so a drink is on hand at any time. The area surrounding the Vitosha Boulevard is a the best destination for nightlife and filled with trendy to traditional watering holes.

The Club Chervilo, or lipstick, is currently Sofia’s in-place for the society crowd. It is composed of 4 separate rooms, each with its own theme and ambiance. The Terrace is the most popular for DJ controlled house music on Weekends, and on Wednesday the Latino Nights are packed, probably because of the flowing Sangria and free Salsa lessons. The club is located in the Military Club at 9 Tzar Osvoboditel Street and is popular with those who want to be seen in Sofia, young prospective models and actors. It is also a popular ex-pat hangout, so chances are you will find someone who wants to have a good conversation in English.

The décor is lipstick red velvet with dark wood, candle light and a great selection of bourbon, whisky and single malt. For those who find the Club Cervilo a bit pretentious and others who just want a change, The Club Dali (6 Shipka Street) is a great choice. It is light, airy and roomy making it a good place for dancing or conversation. There is one room that features techno and hip-hop music for the younger, fashionable crowd and another those who prefer to have a conversation along with their libation. The bar staff is skilled and a fine restaurant with food that competes with any in town is part of the complex.

There is also a popular Latino Night at Dali, perhaps inspired by the namesake painter or at least his homeland. For those who want to experience the luxury and style of times past, the Intermezzo Bar and Piano is the place. Located in the exclusive Kempinski Hotel in Sofia’s best neighborhood, The Intermezzo has lovely views of the rolling foothills of Vitosha Mountain. The Hotel boasts five splendid restaurants but the two bars are where to find night life in full swing. The elegant Intermezzo is at the lobby level and is suits both business meetings and intimate rendezvous. An dramatic mostly glass walled room with high ceilings and marble floors surrounds a central circular bar manned by old world uniformed barmen. The Piano Bar is a cozy room to settle into while listening to the piano player’s rendition of Sinatra and other favorites.
