The Creek and Cherokee Indian tribes orginially occupied the land more than 150 years ago. The first white settlers came to this area during the War of 1812. In 1825 the Creek Nation ceded their lands to State of Georgia. In 1835 the Cherokee nation agreed to leave their lands and moved west under the Treaty of New Echota.
