If you don't want to stay in Volos city try the seaside village of Amaliapolis - about 50km from Volos. It is really beautiful and has fantastic fresh fish and a nice sandy beach. There are rental apartments and a couple of small hotels and it has a genuinely 'Greek' atmosphere with hardly any foreign tourists.

How to get there:
Local buses take you to Almyros and then on to Amaliapolis or take a taxi from Almyros. It is only 20km from Volos airport to Amaliapolis.
