Odense History

In 1803, the town of Odense was made into a port after the opening of its canal. The town roads were developed and at about the 1840s expansion beyond the borders of Odense was implemented. The town quickly extended its territory to the south of the river. Odense is known to be the first town in Denmark to obtain modern water and gas works. Railways were built in 1865 and as a result, the conditions of the town were in position for speedy industrialization.
