The viaducts built over the many railroad tracks of Atlanta have been converted into an interesting shopping and entertainment district at the end of the 60's, although stores and speakeasies have been operating there during the Depression in an ingenious attempt to escape the law. After the rediscovery of the old store-fronts, Underground Atlanta opened with a few bars, restaurants and shops, and it quickly became the center of the city's nightlife. Today, the bars stay open until 4:00 AM, and the patrons can take their drinks from one bar to another. It is mainly a tourist attraction and not a local haunt, but it is nonetheless entertaining, especially if you are in the mood for bar-hopping.
