Arlington History

The city that is now called Arlington was first settled by a Texas Ranger named Colonel Middleton Tate Johnson in 1848.  After being assigned to a nearby post with his men, the Colonel decided to settle permanently on a nearby site.  He built a small community that came to be known as Johnson’s Station.  Colonel Johnson died in 1866 and three years later, Reverend Andrew Shannon Hayter settled in the community.  He founded a church, but he also worked as a land surveyor.  When the Texas and Pacific Railway Company came to the area looking for the best route for a transcontinental railroad, Reverend Hayter gave much-needed assistance.  [...]
