The city of Toshkent (known as Tashkent in English and Toshkent in local Uzbekistani Language) happens to be the capital city for Uzbekistan. It is one of those rare historical cities that lie on the famous Silk Routes which used to connect China to the Mediterranean Sea. Silk Routes (or Silk Roads) were defined pathways which were used by people of China to transfer silk from their country to the rest of Asia. They have served the Asian countries for many years.

The ancient touch in the city of Toshkent is now nowhere to be seen due to a major earthquake that hit the city somewhere in 1966. Later on somewhere in 1917 the administration of Toshkent worked hard to modernize the city and this is when the remaining historical monuments lost their roots. However, some of the historical remains are still left but most of them aren’t of any use for the locals as well as the foreign tourists.

The unique selling point of this city is its cleanliness that you might not find in the rest of Uzbekistan. Although the infrastructure of the city isn’t that great, yet the administration takes the cleanliness of the city seriously.

The city of Toshkent has many universities which are always ready to serve those who want to enhance their knowledge in various niches. There are eight government funded universities and seven government run institutes in the city of Toshkent.

The city of Toshkent was gifted the Metro Rail Service which has made the traffic of Toshkent much better. The metro system has been running successfully since year 1977 and it was the 7th metro rail system in the former USSR. The metro rail system of Toshkent is famous in the world due to its ornamental design which is the brain child of architects from various corners of Uzbekistan.

The government of Toshkent has worked hard to improve the quality of the city. New hotels, restaurants, markets, buildings, and shops etc. have been built in last few years to attract foreign and national tourists. The city of Toshkent is waiting hard for the tourists to head towards it, as still the tourism industry hasn’t gained that status which it deserves and which the government might have planned.
