Wenatchee Travel Guide, Washington

It cannot be said about Wenatchee that it is a touristy place and that people come especially to visit the city. Most of the tourists you see in the city happen to be here as passers by, ones that exploring the beautiful area around it cannot avoid ending up in Wenatchee.

Wenatchee is located in the state of Wshington, perched along the banks of the Columbia River, a beautiful location for a city and it is also close to the lush forests and the slopes of the Cascades. One would find this scenery pretty satisfying but someone thought otherwise. Herman Ohme and his family thought of adding something to it and thus making the part of the region that was an arid and shrub-steppe, green. He turned a considerable size of the desert into lush alpine gardens with meadows, waterfalls, rock gardens and fern grottoes. They are the result of 60 years of dedicated work. There is nothing artificial about them and they are a prime attraction in the Wenatchee area. They are located north of town and cover an area of 9 acres on top of rocky cliffs that offer a wonderful view of the surrounding area.

Another attraction this time in town is the Wenatchee Valley Museum & Cultural Center featuring exhibits on local Native American culture, traveling and the first transpacific flight. The museum is also worth visiting for the exhibits on Great Northern Railway and you may also choose it as the prime venue featuring great concerts.

The region is also known as a famous apple-growing region and Wenatchee happens to be in the middle of it. Even Washington State’s prime agricultural product is apples. The reason why apples like it here is due to the proper climate in the area and the abundant water supplies that come from the two rivers. So while you visit the area you will have the chance to taste some of the freshest apples. The locals are probably more inclined to follow the advice in the famous saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” as they have the source right under their nose. You would expect the locals to be the healthiest people in the country!

There are other things that can keep the locals healthy and active, the many outdoor activities the region has at their disposal, the most appreciated are hiking and skiing. The Mission Ridge ski area is quite close to town and ski lovers may take the town as a starting point in practicing their favorite sport.

Even if there are not many attractions in town, Wenatchee can be seen as a lovely stopover in your journey around Washington State or it can make a good base for those exploring the area’s natural beauty.
