Among the 7 cities of the Hampton Roads, Hampton is located on the south-east end of Virginia Peninsula and borders Chesapeake Bay and Hampton Roads. Hampton is the host of Langley Air Force Base, Virginia Air & Space Center Fort Monroe, NASA Langley Research Center and features numerous industrial and business enterprises, historical sites, residential and retail areas and lengths of beaches and waterfront.

There are two different areas in Hampton which link to Chesapeake Bay. The waterfront downtown area of the city welcomes visitors from all round the world and has been recently renovated. Attractions in the downtown area include brick sidewalks, cobblestone streets, restaurants, pubs, shops, galleries, restored antique carousel, Waterfront Park and one air & space museum. The Air & Space center is worth visiting if you are interested in the history of space exploration and aviation and experience the features of an IMAX movie theater. There is a park near the center in which you can ride in an authentic wooden carousel restored in the 1920’s.

The Mill Point Park, situated at the east end of the Queens Way of the waterfront, features rock live music every Wednesday and jazz on Fridays. Block parties on Saturday nights at the Queens Way host live dance music, games and street entertainers.

The Fort Monroe or Phoebus area has been located on the city’s eastern side. It was once an integrated town and still has managed to retain its individual character. Today, Phoebus experiences a renaissance and now features a great mix of antique shops, older homes, restaurants and art and craft galleries. The American Theatre at the Mellon Street has been restored recently and is really worth a visit. It has become one of the major performance venues of Hampton Roads.

Fort Monroe at the Old Point Comfort has been the biggest star fort built in the US. If you are in Hampton, you must visit the museum of the fort which is surrounded by spectacular views of Chesapeake Bay and other picturesque structures. Hampton Coliseum is a multi-purpose facility which hosts several events every year such as conventions, trade shows, sporting events and concerts. It is located right in middle of the Hampton city and no matter in when you visit, you will definitely find something interesting in it.
