Mission Travel Guide

Initially occupied by tribes of the Native American Coahuiltecans that survived on natural resources for a period of 1,000 years, the area where it lies now was earlier called La Lomita. It was in the year 1908 that Mission was founded as a town along with the establishment of the Missouri Pacific Railroad. It has since then rapidly grown into a city that has a population close to 50,000. read more

Mission History

Until 1904, Mission had small railroads and a small railway junction point only five miles away from La Lomita. The railroad was extended and covered 20 acres of land that became the town of Mission. John J. Conway and J. W. Holt are among the first property owners and settlers in Mission. In 1907, they purchased lots of lands in Mission and divided it for resale. read more
