The rich history of Lansing, Michigan
The very area that is now known as Lansing has a very rich history behind its formation and existence. As the sources reveal, this area was originally a dense forest before 1825. There were no roads or streets that could make human interaction with the area easily possible.
Calling Lansing as the Biddle City
In 1836, two great brothers from New York actually plotted the area that is now called the REO Town. It was southwards of downtown Lansing and called it the “Biddle City”. All of this land was just a floodplain and remained under water for most of the year. Later, the brothers sold the plots to potential investors in New York. Many people bought land in this town that was yet to be formed and had nothing substantial to offer. They named the area the “Lansing Township”. This was done in order to honour their native home village back in New York.
The development of present day Lansing, Michigan
The current Lansing is actually a straight result of a great industrial powerhouse that began with the founding of the Old Manor Vehicle Company, in August 1897. This company underwent great changes, until it became one of the major achievements of the city. The city then continued to grow with other great developments in the arenas of economy and manufacturing. Today, Lansing is a greatly developed city and renders people mesmerized with the facilities and the spectacular views it has to offer.
