Hays, KS US – Overview

Hays, located in Kansa is the largest city of the entire North West part of the state. The city has a total populace of 20,000, which makes it a moderately congested city. In 1867 when Fort Hays was established, the city used to be in complete chaos as far as law and order was concerned. But gradually with the passage of time total control was established which turned Hays into a great place to live in.

The city celebrates and memorizes its heritage by hosting some festivals every year. The University also received quite a number of basketball titles. The men's basketball team won the National championships (NAIA) in the consecutive years of 1984 and 1985. The women’s basketball team is no less than the male counterparts are as they won the NAIA title in 1991. Hays Medical Center received acknowledgement from the “National Rural Health Association” which titled this institution as the "Outstanding Rural Health and Telemedicine Program in the United States" in 1997. The “Hays Public Library” is ranked fourth in the country for catering to more than 99,000 readers. The KSU Ag Research Center of Hays is considered the largest research center of the country.

The Ellis County Historical Museum, Volga German House, Historic Churches, Hays Symphony Orchestra, Commerce Bank gallery, Research Center, Kansas Merci Boxcar & Veterans Memorial Park are all parts of the city’s rich list of tourist attractions.
