Glendale Nightlife, California

With many famous residents, Kevin Costner is just one, a night out in Glendale is certain to include many opportunities for people watching. Most watering holes are places to see and be seen, so dress for style rather than comfort and head on out.

Except if you go to Dave’s Bar: This is a dive and unashamed about it. It is beloved by locals and everyone who enters the door becomes one immediately.  It offers a full bar, taped music, karaoke and a great time in a somewhat dank atmosphere that adds to the experience.

On the opposite end of the scale is The Left Coast Wine Bar & Gallery, which is exactly that, a great wine bar with an extensive wine list and ample pours in a spiffy setting. The gallery aspect is from the shows of local artists that constantly change, providing interesting things to view no matter how often you go. There are light snacks and appetizers to accompany your drinks.

If you are in the mood for dancing, head to the Capri Lounge on North Pacific Avenue, a stylish place with a small dance floor and good sound system.

Jax Bar & Grill is a favorite, with live jazz and blues acts and loads of ambiance, more reminiscent of New York than LA.  The high tin ceilings, complete with ceiling fans, are great to look at and keep the air circulating and fresh. There is  an old pulley type system of leather belts separating the bar from the restaurant area and the stage is in the bar for the performers.  A full food and drinks menu is available with a good selection of mostly California wines.

The Minx Lounge is also a restaurant with food and service that is highly rated and the décor is stylish and ultra contemporary. There is dancing in the bar and a mixed crowd that is mostly local and you’ll see more seniors than youngsters. But with such reasonable prices for great food, who minds a few elderly statesmen? The Minx Lounge accommodates large parties with ease and has also a large and comely looking outdoor area for those who want to dine alfresco and absorb balmy California ocean breezes.

Rock and Roll and plenty of it is found at The Scene. Some feel it has some of the best shows in LA with the most popular LA based bands. Who could want more? There is a great jukebox for intermissions, and a photo booth, large dance floor and, uh, a full bar. The crowd is hip Los Angeles and with all of the beautiful people, who notices the décor, which is ok, clean and comfortable.
