Fontana Sights and Landmarks Guide, California

 

Fontana is a city in San Bernardino County, California in United States. During and after the World War II major developments occurred in the city and now it has become the ‘city of action’, as it is being called. Mark Nuaimi is the present mayor of the city. There are quite a few interesting places to visit in Fontana.

Auto Club Speedway of southern California 

If you are one of those who love speed then you are going to have a whale of a time here. The Auto club Speed way, located in 9300 Cherry Avenue is owned and operated by International Speedway Corporation. Formerly it was known as California Speedway.  Just like the Michigan International Speedway, it is a super speed way, in a two mile D- shaped oval. Being a relatively new Speedway it can accommodate road races, vehicle testing, drag races and many more. Some of the major events that are held here are Cart race, Gil de Ferran, Penskey Racing, NASCAR Sprint cup series, IRL race, AMA Superbike, and Suzuki Superbike Challenge. You are sure to catch one event or the other during your visit to this lovely place. 

Mary Vagle Museum and Nature Center

It is situated on the hills of Jurupa. The scenario inside it is just awesome, and the museum is built just in the lap of Mother Nature. Different programs are always being organized inside the park for various groups of students, who are allowed to have a direct interaction with the nature and to listen to different types of amazing sounds of different animals. You can have an exciting picnic at the clean pristine pond that is situated in the center. It is a favorite picnic spot for the locals too.

Fontana Reservoir

 It was completely built in the year 1944. Fontana dam is the highest dam situated at the east of the Rocky Mountains. The bird’s eye view of the Fontana Dam from the Appalachian Trail is admired by many hikers. The imposing structure is 480 feet high and is spread over an area of about 2,365 feet. 

Jurupa Lagoon and Water Slide Park

Two water slides and a lagoon swimming pool are present over here. It is situated in the Sierra Ave, in Fontana. The park remains open in the weekends throughout the summer months, from 11 am to 6 pm and is a great weekend getaway for all age groups.

Community Centers

Center Stage Theatre, Lewis Library Foundation and Technology Center are popular centers among the students. It is a considered a mine house of information!

The City Hall Council Chambers is located at 8353 Sierra Avenue, Fontana, California. It is the place where the mayor and the council members meet for discussing various issues. Thus when you visit Fontana you find beautiful, educational and cultural sights, all packed into one.
