Shishmaref happens to be a small village located in the state of Alaska, United States of America. It is part of Nome Census Area which covers many neighboring regions of Alaska. It is located on the famous Sarichef Island on the Chukchi Sea.
It is located around 5 miles from the nearest land and is located on the northern side of Bering Strait. It is part of Bering Land Bridge National Preserve.

This small village of Shishmaref is still relying on traditional methods of hunting to collect food. Most of the locals come from the historical Inuit tribes that have been prevalent in Northwest Arctic in Alaska, Bering Straits, and North Slope Boroughs.
Some of the food that is preferred by the locals are birds (like ptarmigan), fish, walrus, seals, oogruk, moose, and caribou. Shishmaref is also very famous amongst its neighbors due to the quality of fermented meat and seal oil they sell.

The authorities are planning to relocate Shishmaref to the nearby Tin Creek Site which is an area on the southern side of Shishmaref. The current site of Shishmaref has been facing weird erosion and climatic problems due to global climate change and hence the authorities have proposed this place for relocation. As of now, they are seeking private, state, and federal help for this relocation.
