Ambler Sights and Landmarks Guide, Alaska

Ambler is situated on the north bank of Kobuk River and in Kotzebue Recording District. If you want to visit Ambler, you should go there between the months of July and October because it is the only time when the Kobuk River is navigable. But of course, aside from this notable River, there are other tourist attractions worth exploring in Ambler.

Ambler Sights – Natural and Manmade Landscapes

Ambler Sights is a combination of natural and manmade landscapes usually seen in parks and other landforms. Look at what is worth exploring in this category.

Kobuk National Park. It is a basin surrounded by the Baird and Waring peaks. It conserves main highlights of the region like the middle part of the Kobuk River, the 25-square mile Great Kobuk Sand Dunes, and the Little Kobuk and Hunt River hills.

Onion Portage Site. This attraction is also found along the Kobuk River at the eastern section of the National Park. The Onion Portage is considered as one of the most essential archeological spots in arctic America.

Katmai. This is the place you should visit if you want to see amazing bears like the brown bears.

River Bluffs. This is a kind of attraction comprised of sand that stands more or less 150 feet high. River Bluffs possesses permanently frost ice blocks and relics of ice creatures.

Kobuk Valley. This is the major place of breeding for more than 100 kinds of birds. It is also the house of wolves, bears, wolverines, weasels, lemmings and hawks. It gives significant fall and winter scope for the western arctic caribou flock. You can also see groups of bulls and cows during the later part of August up to October as they wander transversely via the Kobuk River during their yearly massive journey.

Katmai National Park & Preserve, Aniakchak National Monument & Preserve, Becharof and Alaska Peninsula National Wildlife. These attractions are also worth visiting while you are in Ambler. They are located in the Alaskan Peninsula amid the Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea. You can learn how these sites conserve wildlife migrants and at the same time watch the different kinds of animals.

Ambler Sights – Various Water Forms

Aside from what you see on land, Ambler Sights also has water forms that will surely attract you to navigate the place. Here are some of the best ones.

Ambler and Salmon River. These are two minor brooks that give enchanting flowing of river water. These small brooks are luminously sheer and provide excellent amusement to tourists.

Prudhoe Bay. This is located at the Arctic coastline and is considered the guardian of the area’s vital oil and gas supplies. At the eastern part of the bay, you can reach the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, an area that preserves different kinds of migrant animals.
