Preston was inaugurated as a city in 2002 and is now regarded as 'England's Newest City.' It is located at the banks of Ribble River. Travel

Travelling to Preston is simple. The city has three main North West Airports. These are the Liverpool, Blackpool and Manchester Airports. Its main station, West Coast Main Line, travels regularly from London and Glasgow. Preston's Railway Station is found at Fishergate Hill and is at the center of the Lancanshire Railway Network. This railway operates for Yorkshire, Manchester, Liverpool and other local links. Bus services at Preston use the 'Real time' system. This informs the passengers the time the bus will arrive at the station. All they need to do is use Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology.

Preston Tourist Information Centre offers accommodation and booking services. It is located at Guild Hall Arcade, Lancaster Road. The office is open from Mondays to Saturdays at 10am to 5:30pm. Climate

The warmest month in Preston is in July and the coldest is in February. The Driest month is in spring and the wettest is in autumn. An experience of extreme weather rarely occurs but hails and heat waves can also take place in the city.

Preston offers a variety of entertainment venues. This ranges from restaurants to clubs, theaters to museums, and golf clubs to football clubs. However, if one wishes to escape from the city life, a visit to Preston's country side could be an option. Enjoy hectares of woodland, moorland and grassland at Beacon Fell Country Park. After a delightful exploration of the views, tourists can rest in the picnic areas, visitor center and cafe.

There are two sites in Preston that must be visited to complete the travel experience. One is the Millennium Ribble Link, which is the first new inland waterway built in England for over a century. The other is the Museum of Lancashire, which gives a feeling that one is taken back in time because of its Victorian ambiance.

Annual Events

Yearly, Preston celebrates an array of fun and colorful events. On Easter Monday, the city plays Easter Egg Rolling down the hill. Caribbean Carnival and Town Criers Competition are celebrated in May. In June, they have their Music Festival and in July, they hold the Maritime Festival at the Riversway Complex. Preston conducts the Preston Pot Fair in August and the Historical Fair in September. The most interesting event that Preston celebrates is the Christmas Parade and Torchlight Procession, which is done in December.

Whether it is shopping, dining, strolling, or checking out cultural and historical sites, one can never run out of things to do in Preston.  Their festivities alone would fill your heart’s content no matter which time of the year you plan to visit the place.
