The rich cultural heritage of Chicago is depicted in its famous sights.  Other tourist attractions in the city can be seen in zoos and parks as well.  If you are thinking about visiting, it will help if you take a look at some of the travel guides for this remarkable place.

Art Institute of Chicago

This was originally known as the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts.  It was constructed for several years after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.  In 1879, the institute was opened to the public.  Since Chicago was designated to house the World’s Columbian Exposition in 1893, the structure had to be enlarged.

The place previously displayed plaster casts from donations and several acquisitions.  These days, however, it is considered one of the extremely commendable sights in Chicago.  The Art Institute has three levels with over 4,500 paintings and other arts coming from the rest of the 6 continents from Asian displays to European crafts.

Lincoln Park Zoo

Named after President Abraham Lincoln, this park was established in the year 1884.  It is one of the oldest historical places in Chicago.  In fact, it is the oldest park in the country.  The 35-hectare land it possesses is now regarded as home for more than 1,100 mammals, birds and insects. The park is considered an eye-opener making tourists and other members of the populace become aware of the needs of animals.  Eateries flunk the surroundings of the Lincoln Park, thus, whenever you feel hungry from the tour, you could choose from the wide variety of food stops.

Museum Science and Industry

This museum showcases the various machineries used in development of scientific inventions.  It has several floors named after famous astronauts and other remarkable names in the world of science and technology.  The Henry Crown Space Center features some of NASA’s space exploration campaigns.  The German U-505 Submarine that is responsible for the death of thousands of American sailors can also be seen in the area.  The Transportation Zone makes you catch your breath with awe and see the true spirit of America with the Boeing 727 as its main attraction.

Millennium Park- This unprecedented park stands on a 24.5-acre lot.  It stages a lot of commendable art works, music, architectural designs and even ice skating.  It stages free classical music presentations from the Grant Park Orchestra and Chorus.  It has other attractions namely:  Jay Pritzker Pavilion; BP Bridge; Chase Promenade; Crown Fountain; Exelon Pavilions Harris Theater; Harris Theater; Kapoor Sculpture on SBC Plaza; Lurie Garden; McCormick Tribune Plaza and Ice Rink; and Wrigley Square and Millennium Monument.

Besides these tourist spots, Chicago houses more parks and other destinations that will fill your heart’s content.  If you are planning to take a tour of the city, it pays knowing what the place is all about and why it was constructed.  These are but just some of the options that Chicago offers to both locals and vacationers alike.
