One of the best sites to spend your holiday in America - a real blend of modernity and pastoral scenery - is the superb state of Colorado.
Lying in the mid-western part of the States and being set across the famous Rocky Mountains, Colorado offers the best natural scenery in the world. It is here where the famous red-rock formations and snow-capped summits snapshots were made.
The Rockies, the canyons, the plains, the mountain streams are everything a nature lover would dream of. The outdoor adventurers are at home here as the most famous national parks are in Colorado-the well-known Rocky Mountain National Park, the narrow but beautiful Black Canyon National Park and the historical Mesa Verde National Park.
On these mountains one can hike, camp, raft, horse-ride or simply wander and feel free. One can hike on the Rocky Mountain on many routes, from the easiest ones, around a mountain lake to a long and thrilling trip to the Long Peak summit. There are shuttle buses which take you to the trail heads. For instance, you may hike the Colorado trail, a 500 mile long trail which links Colorado to Durango, and crosses the Continental Drive, through tough terrain and authentic wilderness such as the Collegiate Peaks Wilderness. From here you get astounded at the sight of the enormous Mount Elbert (over 14000ft.) and other high peaks.
Another famous trail is Tipperary Creek trail, a trail winding from Fraser to Winter Park and crossing through deep forests and wild flowered clearings.
To save money, it is essential that you purchase a National Parks Pass, an entry pass you can buy at the entrance of any National Park. With this Pass you may also visit some monuments such as Colorado National Monument or Dinosaur National Monument. An important aspect is that a National Park Pass offers free acces for both the holder and the vehicle occupants. If you are not a professional hiker, there are solutions for you as well. You may prearrange an escorted tour which guarantees your safety. The outfitters are polite, open to answer all your questions and very prompt. Also, you may find many shops in Colorado resorts which offer mountain outfits.
At the same time, Colorado has kept in touch both with history and the modern world by being the home of many historical buildings and some fashionable cities such as Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Denver and resorts such as Aspen or Vail, locations which resemble the architecture of Los Angeles and New York.
Also, history is well preserved here. The English colonizers left some evidence in Colorado such as Victorian houses or steam trains. If you are a history lover, you may even find some genuine Old West towns and even some well-preserved ancient adobe-and-stone villages.
Beside hiking and camping, in Colorado, you may do other outdoor activities such as biking, horseback-riding, cattle-riding, fishing or swimming. There are many resorts which offer outdoor pools, tennis and volleyball courts and children’s programs areas. In wintertime, ski lovers, snowmobile lovers and not only them may enjoy their hobbies in Colorado resorts.
Colorado is the materialization of the great American hymn ‘America the beautiful’. It is a spot nature has shed her grace upon. With its spectacular snow-capped mountains, its red-coloured canyons, fresh water streams, green meadows, Colorado is the paradise on earth. One shouldn’t miss it!
