Oakland, CA US - History:

Small Town Growing Big!

If you look carefully, the history of Oakland goes back to 150 years before the place was even founded. Initially, the place had been inhabited by the Native Americans for something around 5000 years before the Spanish spotted the region.

Though it was 1770, when the Spanish first cited this place, it took them more than 50 years to move over and be settled. Much later came several people from different parts of the world to flock at Oakland during the period of the Gold Rush incident, which had taken the place by storm in a matter of few months. It was in 1850s, when John Oak and his wife along with 22 other pioneers moved into the Tekamah region from Ottawa.

This happened to be Norwegian settlement of LaSalle County in Iowa from where John Oak had started farming in the Silver Creek Township. In the subsequent future, John assisted five different families to also locate farmland for themselves and in the due process all of them together became the founder pioneers of Oakland. The territory was now well known, being situated in the marvelous Logan Creek Valley of the Californian neighborhood. Harmony and care was brought about among the people of the community through the help of several churches that were built in the region.

Earlier in 1869, the churches were from the Baptist or Lutheran background, which was moved by Covenants. The Methodists came later to further promote Free Mission Churches, which are seen so frequently nowadays. It had been almost confirmed that by the end of 1879, the railroad would be completed over Oakland urging several people to raise funds for purchasing the current town site.

By 1881, the region had been established with the status of a village with the building of the first railroads.  Looking at it in the modern times, Oakland is a major city that links Burlington on the main railroad line, after having linked Chicago, Quincy and Burlington in early 1900. The place has grown rapidly after its slow start in the earlier days. With several banks and financial institutions investing their credits in Oakland, it was bound to see its condition improve. Moreover, Oakland has seen several forms of business being done in its territory over the last century and has been flourishing from every aspect of economy and trade.
