Sheffield, UK - Overview

Sheffield, a city of ancient origins that has also been mentioned by Chaucer in his The Canterbury Tales as the City Of Knives is located in South Yorkshire and the Humber regions in England.

Sheffield is situated directly beside Rotterdam at the confluence of 5 rivers which contributes to its geographical diversity. The city lies in the lap of nature, nestled in the crook of several hills and caressed by the famous five rivers of Porter, Loxley, Rivelin, Sheaf and Don.

The city of Sheffield at times dips to a real low 96 feet above the sea level at Blackburn Meadows and sometimes rises up to 1800 feet above the sea level near Margery Hill at High Stones.

This geographical specialty adds to Sheffield’s uniqueness. Its other USP which will make the environment conservationists jump in glee is the lush green cover of the city boasting of over 2 million trees which translates into 61% green space which is the highest in Europe.

It wouldn’t be an overstatement to say that Sheffield is Europe’s greenest city with more trees than human beings. Within its boundary lies portions of Peak District National Park and there are over 50 public parks and over 150 woodland spaces in Sheffield.

The other distinctive feature of Sheffield is the fact that an overwhelmingly large proportion of Sheffield’s working population is involved in some kind of creative industry.

Especially electronic outfits, synth pop bands and many other world renowned musicians and bands hail from Sheffield, thus contributing to its cultural diversity.

You will be spoilt for choice when you go on a sightseeing trip around Sheffield. Some of the top attractions in Sheffield include the National Centre For Popular Music,  The University Of Sheffield,  Graves Park, Endcliffe Park, Millhouses Park, Peace And Winter Gardens, Victoria Quays, Shepherd Wheel, Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, Sheffield Fire And Police Museum, The Kelham Island Museum, The Weston Park Museum, Heeley City Farm, The Botanical Gardens and many other.
