Home of kings and queens, a place of dreams and opulence, London is one of the biggest destinations in Europe. It has everything you would expect in a big metropolis and more. It has amazing architecture, great museums and attractions, beautiful gardens and open spaces, excellent shops, vibrant nightlife and a posh atmosphere. It is original and you can’t compare it with anything else.

Getting around

London has the most evolved and comprehensive transport system in Europe and your visit will be a piece of cake. You can get anywhere you want fast and comfortable no matter what you choose. even if during high season it gets a bit crowded it efficiency is not to be doubted, you won’t have to wait for too long to get on your favorite means of transport. You can choose anything from the famous red bus, underground, railway, boat or typical London cab. London is a city made for visitors; everything is done to their comfort as millions visit it every year.

Children under 5 travel free on buses, Tube, DLR and Tramlink. And if you plan to visit most part of London in one day it is better to make the most of the transport facility and buy a Day Travelcard if you are alone or a Family Travelcard that is valid for 2 adults and up to 4 children travelling off-peak. If you plan to stay up to7 days it is better to buy a 7 Day Travelcard, you will save on your expenses. The Weekend Travelcard is suitable if you visit the city for the weekend.

So plan ahead and choose the best variant for you. You can buy them at any station, ticket outlets, or from the Travel Information Centres which is probably the best choice.

Tips

Even if London is one of the cities with most video surveillance cameras, watch out for your belongings in crowded places as that’s where pickpockets operate.

Tourism is highly developed and you don’t have to wander about what to do or where to go first, from the moment you arrive you can get tons of information from the many free brochures you can pick right from the airport or from the tourist information centre. You’ll get to know everything from accommodation possibilities to great places visit, eat and relax.

Attractions

If we were to list all the attractions in London the list would be too long for you to follow so we limit yourself to some of them. Depending on what you are interested in you can choose to explore history, architecture, restaurants, shops or places of entertainment for kids or adults or maybe a bit of everything.

Well, it is my favorite city! It beautiful, it's excited, it's busy also it could be very calm, with many huge parks in the middle of city. There are many fantastic theatres, where you really sould go(tickets from 20 pounds, good places from 45pounds, but it truthfully worthed). Many museums in London are free, like in many places in England, you must see: The national Gallery of art(Van Gogh, Remrandt, Leonardo and many other famous pictors works), Tate Modernd(Picasso, Dali, Kandinsky and many many others..), British Museum(The bigest museum in England, where is a part of Egypt and Greece and many others). The best place for shopping(only it's expensive) are: Oxford street, Regents steet, Piccadily circus. The food is the best in Soho and Chinatown. For sightseeingt I would recommanded to go up on London Eye, but only is the wheter is fine(you need to book the tickets before). You must trie the subway and an original London taxi as well. After all this you need to go for a London party, if the wheter is fine you should go in Duth park, where are partys almost every night, but if the wheter is just english wheater you must goo to trie an original English bar.

  • Guinevere1988Victoria and Albert Museum >> added on October 24, 2009, by Guinevere1988
The Victoria and Albert Museum is not only famous for the art displayed in its halls but also for the majesty of the building and the great architecture of it.
It is a very diverse museum it covers many fields. There are great pieces of art displayed, but there are also some more modern things in it.
It is also a big place so it takes at least one hour to run through the things shown.
There are sculptures, medieval exhibitions, a history of fashion (with unbelievable dresses) and artifacts from many parts of the world (Japan, China, Asia). In the garden of the museum there is a nice caffee for those who want a rest.
In my opinion the most amazing part of the museum is the diversity of the things on display, each and every member of the family, or of a group can find something interesting in it.
  • Guinevere1988The Dali Universe >> added on October 24, 2009, by Guinevere1988
The Dali Universe is advertised with the headline 'Enter in the mind of the genius'. You can view the Dali exhibition at County Hall in London. It is a wonderful exhibition, but unfortunately cameras and picture taking is forbidden. However, it is a once in a lifetime experience. The place has a unique atmosphere and the works of Dali are spellbinding. Along with Dali some of Picasso's works are also shown. When you enter the exhibition first you can see some pictures about Dali with different quotes from the great artist.
The works of Dali are categorized into different topics and under each painting there is an explanation of what the painting is about. For example there is a group of paintings about the famous novel Decameron, about Don Quijote, about erotica and the art of love, alchemy and mysticism.
For those who can afford it there is also a shop where they are selling some of the works of Dali.
  • Guinevere1988British Museum >> added on October 24, 2009, by Guinevere1988
The British Museum is one of the biggest and most famous museums in London. Personally, I found it the most interesting one. There are many expositions in it and every month there is a special exposition too. This month, until the end of november there is an exposition about Mayan culture. The special expositions have fees, but the rest of the museum is for free.
There are many artifacts from ancient Greece, ancient Rome, Egypt, Africa and Asia too. There are many statues from Greece, vases and objects used in everyday life. The Egyptian expose is wonderful with many statues, mummies, copies from the Egyptian Book of The Dead and objects found in Pyramids. There are also religious objects and symbols exposed.
The Museum is huge and it takes at least two hours to take a good look at everything. Parents can buy special books and teaching materials for kids, so they can understand better what they are seeing.
