With its exciting mixture of tradition and contemporariness London has something to offer everyone. London’s ancient heritage ensures that there are many historical hotspots in the city that offer a wealth of cultural richness but the city is also one of the most developed and modernized places in the world offering a truly international multiculturalism that will delight aficionados of popular culture. Some of the must see locations in this charismatic city include no less than four World Heritage Sites: Westminster Palace and Westminster Abbey along with St. Margaret's Church; the historical hotspot of the Tower of London; the Greenwich settlement; and the Royal Botanic Gardens. For theater buffs the Royal Court is a surefire hit which features established as well as up and coming artists from all over the world. The London Zoo and Madame Tussaud’s wax museum are situated close to each other and are popular destinations on any tourist’s agenda. West End is one of the most well known entertainment centers and includes Leicester Square and Piccadilly Circus as well as being home to local as well as international premieres. For a truly international shopping experience don’t miss out on Oxford Street which is almost a mile long and the longest market in the world. Bond Street has some of the most upscale markets in terms of designer shopping. Don’t miss out on the world renowned Harrod’s which is located in Knightsbridge. London is also culturally diverse in its cuisine and offers a vast array of dining experiences. Find authentic Chinese cuisine in the ethnic restaurants at Chinatown and South Asian gourmet delights at Brick Lane. Continental cuisine from other European countries like Italy and Greece can be found at Soho. There are also numerous carnivals and music festivals that run seasonally so don’t forget to check out what’s on when you’re visiting London.

London offers many choices in terms of transport and it is easy to get around in the city. An increasingly popular choice is cycling which allows you to save on fuel and also explore the city in a leisurely way. The famous Underground is also worth the experience even if you aren’t planning to use it as a regular means of getting around. For a very classy railway experience consider the Eurostar rail links to Paris and Belgium if those are on your agenda. London’s trademark buses have been recently revamped to include audiovisual aids for those who have disabilities and form one of the largest bus networks in the world.

  • eratoMillenium Bridge >> added on September 10, 2009, by erato
The Millennium Bridge is just the perfect place for walking, I would say. It is a pedestrian bridge that links the Tate Modern Gallery with St.Paul's Cathedral on the Thames. The view from there onto the city is amazing, you wouldn't believe... Go and see it if you are in London. :)
  • bicskaLondon Eye >> added on September 1, 2009, by bicska
If you really want to enjoy a sighseeing in London I would recommanded for you a ride on London Eye. You need to book the tickets before(minimum 2 days before) to get one and you'll must stay in a line for 2-3 hours, but after all this you'll see a fantastic view of London city, off course if you'll be lucky and the wheater will be fine. The ride is almoust an hour(40-45 minits). One ticket is between 15-30 pounds, I would recommand the 30 pound ticket. Don't go without your camera (as I did)!

  • danpopTelephon boxes >> added on June 28, 2009, by danpop
In London, you can see the popular red telephone box, despite the reduction of their numbers in the past years. Even if they are not only exclusively made for London, here you can see many of the reminding booths. The red design is since 1924, with numerous modifications in time. So, walking on the streets of London you can see numerous designs for essentially the same thing: a phone booth. Don't forget to take photos while talking on the phone in this lovely boxes.
  • eratoWestmindster Abbey >> added on April 27, 2009, by erato
Westmindster Abbey is the traditional place for the coronation of the English monarchs since William the Conqueror in 1066. The gothic cathedral is 170 m long, 25 m wide and 34 m high. Many of the country's kings and queens, artists and scientists are buried here but there is no great man in the English culture who wouldn't get at least a memorial plate in the abbey.
