Coventry, UK - Overview

Coventry, located in the West Midlands County, is the 9th largest city in England and the second largest in English Midlands after Birmingham and the eleventh largest city in UK as a whole. It is a land bound city on all sides and has no access to any sea coast being situated very deep inland.

Coventry has been twinned with Dresden, Stalingrad/Volgograd and other such 27 different cities of the world. In fact, it was the first city to become a sister of another city and form a twinning bond.

Coventry is home to the University of Warwick, Coventry University, and the famous football club Coventry City F.C. and the legendary figure of Lady Godiva of the 11th century.

Coventry has risen to its present eminence from a humble little Saxon nunnery settlement founded by Saint Osburga in 700 A.D. c. Coventry has a war torn past, being once razed to the ground in its nascent stage by the Danish invading army helmed by King Canute in 1016 and again devastated by German bombing during World War II through notorious Nazi air raids.

The city of Coventry has an ancient historic lineage to be proud of and houses many buildings which are standing testimonies of a Medieval Golden Age which has long passed by. 

The city has witnessed countless achievements during its trajectory, especially in the fields of architecture, manufacturing (clock and watch, later on bicycle and motor) and civic establishments and most of these old ancient buildings which are no less than specimens of architectural wonders recreate a past that is mellow with fond nostalgia.

Needless to say, Coventry is still redolent of an old world charm that is hard to miss the moment you step into the city.
