Blackpool, UK - Overview

 Blackpool is a town in Lancashire. It is a major tourism spot in the North West England. Human findings indicate that this area was inhabited in the Palaeolithic era. Blackpool has also been discussed in Domesday Book in 1086. Anglo Saxons and Vikings are believed to live here peacefully for a long time. In the 18th century, the practice of sea bathing became popular in Blackpool.

Blackpool experienced the industrial growth in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the same time hotels, amenities, archery and bowling greens were developed.  In 1846, railway service was started in the area. The railway connected many cities with Blackpool. In 1870, Blackpool started to use electricity.

Tourism is one of the major industries in Blackpool. Blackpool is a favorite destination of tourists from all over the world. It is also regarded as the most popular seaside resort in UK. The beaches of Blackpool remain the most popular free attractions in the area. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the most popular beach of Blackpool.

Blackpool has been inhabited by the people with different ethnic backgrounds. The major religions of the people are Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Hinduism.

Blackpool also hosts world’s most popular festivals like Blackpool Dance Festival, Blackpool Illuminations and Rebellion Punk Rock Festival. Blackpool is also considered a safe community for gay people.  It has also being promoted as gay tourism destination. There are many entertainment spots and venues for gay people including the Flying Handbag, Funny girls, FG2, Lucy's Two, Pep’s, Roxy's, dtBar and Mardi Gras.

The landmarks and sights of Blackpool are famous throughout the world.  Some of the major attractions in Blackpool are Blackpool Tower, Pleasure Beach Blackpool, The Winter Gardens, Central Pier, Blackpool skyline, Odeon Cinema, Pepsi Max Big One, Grand Theatre, lackpool Zoo, Funny Girls, Sandcastle Water Park, Odeon Cinema, The Syndicate Nightclub, Stanley Park,  Louis Tussaud's, Waxworks National Theatre of Variety and Dr. Who Exhibitions. These sights and attractions are the source of entertainment for the people of all types.

Blackpool also houses some of the tallest structures in UK. These structures include Blackpool Tower, Charles Court, Walter Robinson Court and Churchill Court.

Blackpool is served by many transportation options including bus, railway and air transport. The buses in the city are operated by Blackpool Transport, Stagecoach Express and National Express. The major railway operators in the area are Northern and TransPennine Express.

Boxing, Cricket, Rugby, car racing and football are the major sports of Blackpool. A number of sporting events and tournaments are organized in the city throughout the year.
