Thun Travel Guide, Switzerland

The country of Switzerland is made up of around 26 cantons which are actually states like in other different countries. One such canton is Berne which has the district of Thun. The city of Thun happens to be a municipality in this particular district of Thun.

The city of Thun is situated in the proximity of Lake Thun. This huge lake (which has an area of around 2500 kilometer square) is located in the northern side of Alps. Aare River flows out of this lake and this also passes by the city of Thun. The city of Thun could be tagged as bilingual as both the German as well as French languages are spoken by the locals of this city. Even in various government offices both the languages are used as official languages.

The economy of this city depends largely on tourism industry due to the immense number of tourist hot spots that are to be found in and around the city. The number of tourists that hit the city of Thun is increasing day by day and today the tourism industry has become the backbone for this economy. Other then tourism industry the city of Thun also has many apparatus and machine engineering companies which regularly provide employment to the locals of this city.

Even the food industry of Thun has also started to gain importance in last couple of years and hence in last few years various food related companies have gained huge businesses in this city of Thun. Lastly fishing business has always been to its peek in the city of Thun due to the presence of Lake Thun and Aare River. As per statistics in the year 2001 the fishermen of this city caught around 53000 kilograms of fish from this lake. For around 15 decades various passenger ships have been operating in this lake in order to carry ship as per requirements. This reflects how huge the fish business is in the Thun Lake.

The city of Thun is famous for a Castle which was built somewhere in the 12 century. As of now a museum is located in this castle which has many manuscripts and plus armors of historical years. The city of Thun is a must visit due to its scenic beauty and historical importance.
