Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, is a very interesting city. The setting for many remarkable events in the history of the country and perhaps in the history of Europe itself, Stockholm is rich with remnants of a long-lost past that is still lovingly remembered by their locales.

Stockholm Vasa Museum

The Vasamuseet is where tourists can find the story of the ill-fated ship of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden. King Gustavus wanted to have the best ship in all of Sweden and had the Vasa built. For 2 years (1626-1628) Disregarding the advice of the ship’s designers, he used his authority as king to add several items to the blueprint of the ship to satisfy his intended aesthetics. However, his additions affected the seaworthiness of his ship. What resulted was a tragedy; the Vasa did not make it far from the harbour of Stockholm and sunk.

The Vasa was salvaged back in the 1960s and housed in the museum, which now shows to the world the sad story of the vessel.

Stureplan

Located right in the middle of town, Stureplan Public Square is home to several high-class restaurants and bars. Stureplan is ideal if you want to have a close look at the social life of the elite in Stockholmian society. Upper-class citizens, Swedish celebrities, business executives, and the current generation of the Swedish royal family are the frequent visitors to this public square. Aside from restaurants and bars, the elite nature of the park is boosted by the presence of banks, financial institutions, and corporate headquarters in its vicinity.

Humlegarden

Very near to the elite playground of Stureplan is the Humlegarden, a park that has its history back to the 1500s. It was first built on the orders of King Johan III of Sweden. It was intended as a fruit garden, and its name is derived from one of the major plants that the king’s gardeners cultivated in the garden. It was a royals-only venue up until the late 19th century when it was finally opened to the public. Today, Humlegarden is a public park with many recreational values for the locals and visiting tourists. In here, you can find a soccer court, a playground, and a skateboard ramp. This is one of the perfect places in the city to experience the common people’s recreational pursuits. The Swedish National Park can also be found within the vicinity of the public square.
