Sabadell Travel Guide, Spain

Sabadell is the second biggest city in Valles Occidental Region in Spain. It broke new grounds for textile mills during the Industrial Revolution. Because of that, it was regarded as the Catalan Manchester and the primary wool city in the country. At present, Sabadell is known as a city flourishing in various industries and commerce.

Sabadell is easy to reach. The best place to arrive at when travelling by plane is Barcelona International Airport. The airport is located 17 miles away from the city. It is served by international and domestic flights with more than 30 airlines. Some of the airlines are Air Berlin, Germanwings, British Airways, KLM Royal Dutch, Lufthansa, SWISS, and United Airlines.

The city has its own airport, the Sabadell Airport, but only a small division is used for commercial flights. Another close by airport is the Costa Brava Airport in Gerona, which is 45 miles away from Sabadell.

Another way to get into Sabadell is by railway. One train line is the Frrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya that has two main train stations in the city. These are the Sabadell Estacio and Sabadell Rambla. The other is the RENFE Suburban Line which has three stations in Sabadell. The stations are Sabadell Sud, Sabadell Nord, and Sabadell Centre.

The city is served by five main bus lines which come from different cities in the country and other parts of Europe. The bus lines include Sabadell-Sant Quirze, Empresa Plana, Sagalés, Sarbus, and La Vallesana.

The best transportation to travel with when touring around the city is the bus. This means of transportation is also the cheapest but commuters must be aware of the routes and trip schedules of each bus line.

Sabadell has a Mediterranean climate. The weather, therefore, is characterized by hot, dry and humid summers with occasional sea breezes. Winter brings cool mornings and chilly nights. Autumn and spring are the most showery seasons. The warmest month is July, the coolest month is January and the wettest month is October.

The city hosts a lot of festivals and events. And since it is a commercial and an industrial city, Sabadell also organizes different trade fairs and street fairs. Some of the must-see festivals in the city are: Aplec de la Salut in May; Main Annual Festival and National Festival in September; Djos Gras during the Thursday before Lent; Sabadell Carnival in February; and Spanish National Festival in October.

Trade Fairs include Baby Children’s Show, Health Fair, Christmas Craft Fair, and Santa Lucia Fair. Street Fairs are consisted of Disc Fair, St. George Day, Sant Ponc Fair, Medievelia, Calle de la Industria Fair, and Ceramics Fair.

Aside from being a successful industrial and commercial city, Sabadell can also be considered a cultural city. As a result, the city is now one of the worthwhile tourist destinations in Spain.
