The Kingdom of Asturias, established in the Middle Ages, turned with the passage of time into an autonomous community in the kingdom of Spain, called the Principality of Asturias. The most important city of this region is Gijon, situated along the Asturias coast. This historical town is made up of 26 districts or administrative divisions and is divided into four big areas, named according to their geographical position.
