Elche Sights and Landmarks Guide, Spain

Forming part of Elche are a series of famous landmarks in the area. Tourist spots vary from museums, and parks and outdoor places of interest. Elche Sights are truly worth a visit like the Madrid Sights.

Elche Sights – Museums

The most visited and most exquisite Elche Sights are the museums. These places show tourists both the ancient and contemporary magnificence of the city’s culture.

Archeological Museum. This museum houses a lot of antiques. The exhibits include Prehistoric pieces, and Iberian and Greco-Roman artifacts. Although Spain is widely known as a Catholic country, the museum displays a vast collection of Islamic items.

Palacio de Altamira. The palace serves as a refuge for a lot of Catholic Monarchs. This palace museum has a wide display of artifacts that originated from the Bronze Age and Copper Age. There are also exhibits from the Roman and Arab Ages.

Museum of Contemporary Art. This museum houses the masterpieces of Valencian and Catalan artists. The displays include graphic arts, ceramics, pictures and modern sculptures. It also has pottery, porcelain, and glass exhibits.

Municipal Museum of Mystery Play. This museum gives travelers an idea of what the Elche Mystery was like. One area in the museum exhibits replicas and scale models of the play. It also has the objects that were used in the performance. The other room presents a documentary about the Mystery Play.

Elche Sights – Parks and Outdoor Sights

A tour around the city is not complete without checking out the different parks and other outdoor sights. These Elche Sights give vacationers a panoramic view of the city and a breath of fresh air.

Palmeral of Elche. This is one of the most popular landmarks in Elche. It has groves of date palms that were cultivated since the Iberian times. The Palmeral of Elche is an epitome of an oasis which illustrates the influence of Arab agriculture in Europe.

Palmeral de Europa. This is one of the finest, if not the best, landmarks in the city. It has the largest grove on the continent. A complete tour around the place can last for two hours. The place is enclosed by Moorish walls and hedges.

Parque Natural de El Hondo. This park is considered a World Heritage Site. This nature reserve is planted with eucalyptus and reed beds. Tourists can also see different species of fish such as grey mullet, carp, mosquitofish and eel.

Parque Natural de las Salinas de Santa Pola. The area extends to 2496 hectares. The plants found in this park are mostly ruches and caladium mariscum. The nature reserve is also a home to bird species such as red-crested pochards and flamingos.

Elche attractions are truly amazing. So if you plan on going to the city, don’t forget to drop by the museums and parks to make your stay worthwhile. Try to get some breather with Alicante Sights as well.
