Cordoba Sights and Landmarks Guide, Spain

Cordoba used to be the largest, most advanced city in Europe with Roman, Islamic and Christian influences in both its architecture and people. At present, Cordoba is identical to other busy cities with lots to offer to the tourists – like those of Argentina’s Buenos Aires. Cordoba Sights provide mesmerizing castles and churches to visit, museums to explore, and recreational sites to linger on.

Cordoba Sights – Cultural Sites

Cordoba's cultural sites are mostly monuments, walls and other landmarks built in the past. They tell the story of Cordoba’s rich and majestic history.

Mezquita. Mosque in English, the Mezquita was built in the 10th century when Abd-ar-rahman III moved to the city. Tourists will be awed by the stunning architecture of the Mezquita which is made of granite jasper and marble pillars. The blending of the light from the sun and the thousand lit oil lights produces fascinating effects inside the mosque.

Palacio de Viana. More than half of the location of this landmark is occupied by a garden and the rest by the castle. Declared as a National Monument and important Artistic Garden, it gives tourists a very homey and calming ambience. The beautiful patios are a delight to walk on and the 18th century garden is just an amazing sight.

Cordoba Sights – Museums

Cordoba Museums displays not just classical paintings, sculptures and archaeological pieces. Some museums are also devoted to controversial art and jewelry.

Diocesan Museum of Fine Arts. This museum was recently built and is located at the Episcopal Palace. It is dedicated to Cordoban artists whose works are showcased at the halls. Medieval art can also be viewed in the museum.

Regina Museum. If most museums are dedicated to painters and sculptors, this museum honors jewelers from Cordoba. Some archaeological pieces are also housed in the Regina.

Cordoba Sights – Parks and Gardens

Most of the parks and gardens in Cordoba are located in cultural and historical sites. Being on these parks is just like being zapped into time and experiencing the past of Cordoba. However, there are also newly made parks for everyone to enjoy.

Alcazar Castle. Although this castle was constructed during the Christian period, the gardens surrounding it are very Moorish in style. Ponds, fountains and aromatic plants.

Aquasierra is a water park which is perfect to visit during a summer vacation in Cordoba. This water park has a lot to offer the people. It has kamikaze and ring rapids, and themed swimming pools for both children and adults to enjoy.

When planning a trip to Andalucia, take some time to visit Cordoba. Cordoba Sights will not disappoint you. That’s for sure! Just like the mesmerizing sights of Mendoza in Argentina, the city promises a lot of tourist spots to enjoy.
