Freetown is actually the largest and the capital city of Sierra Leone. It is a very important port city. It is situated in the very western part of Sierra Leone having a population of over 1,070,200 people. It is basically a great hub for the financial, administrative, educational, cultural, economic and the communications centre of the nation.

Freetown Climate, Sierra Leone

The climate, like in the rest of the Sierra Leone, is tropical. There are showers in the months of May until October that balances the dry weather of the rest of the year. The very inception and the end of showers get marked with very strong winds. There is basically the tropical Savanna Climate. It is in the months of November until February that the coolest season can be experienced here when the gentle winds from Sahara Desert blow over here. The average temperature is seen to be around 23 to 31 degrees Celsius.

Freetown is basically a financial and economic center of Sierra Leone. The national radio and television stations of the country are based primary in Freetown. Freetown is considered a home to many significant ethnic groups. The much known Krio people form a very big community here and form about 29 percent of the entire population of Freetown and over 5 percent of the whole population of Sierra Leone. Krio language is what most of the people speak here.

Transport

If one wants to go to Freetown, then transportation via planes, cars, boats, buses and train is easily possible. The Freetown International Airport in Lungi serves for most of the tourists and residents. Then the train service is also there that is the most popular option with the tourists as it comes cheaper than flying. In fact, a very quick helicopter ride or the hovercraft services serves just as well for a lot of foreign travelers. A ferry ride can also be taken and it runs in to the main area of Freetown. Private boats that cross the Freetown estuary are another alternative for the ones who can afford the option.
