Hunting and fishing are two activities that can be made successfully here due to the presence of numerous water flows in the area and rich terrestrial fauna. Tourists can go on organized hunting or fishing trips almost any time of the year at very good prices.

Green areas can be found also in the very heart of the city, respectively parks and gardens. One of the most beautiful place is Copou Park, a gorgeous public garden with numerous decorative trees and plants recognized also as a dendrology park. The main alley presents the busts of some representative personalities from this side of Romania, famous writers and politicians.

Another important natural attraction here is the Hulubat Paleontology Reservation, a place located in the northern part of the city on the banks of the Vaslui River. The reservation protects the sand deposits located there, sands which are rich in fossils and extremely important for geologists and archeologists.

Vaslui, Sights – Culture and Arts

With such a rich historical heritage Vaslui has a unique architecture, a beautiful mixture of old neoclassical buildings and modern ones. Significant are a few houses that belonged to former rulers of these places and to their families. Ghica House was built at the beginning of the nineteenth century and is the oldest in the city. The building has a classical style and is an architectural monument of national interest. Other such former residences turned into schools or public buildings are the Mavrocordat House, built in a neoclassical style and Madarjac House also dating from the beginning of the twentieth century.

Of high interest are the Vaslui Medieval Fortress and the Princely Court, both of them being declared archeological reservations due to the important historical vestiges found here.

The local war heroes and former rulers are praised through several monuments and statues like the Penes Curcanul Mausoleum, the statue of Stefan cel Mare and the Monument of Independence. The Jew Cemetery and the Cemetery dedicated to the Heroes who fought in the Independence War and in the First World War are also reminders of the rich local history.

Vaslui, Sights – Monasteries and Churches

Like most Romanian old cities, Vaslui houses several beautiful churches, many of them of historic and architectonic significance. The most important such edifices are the Princely Church, built in 1490 by Stefan cel Mare, and Saint Nicholas Church. The Princely Church was built in a very short period for those times, in only five months, as a reminder of the victory against the Turks. Inscriptions within the church tell the story of this architecture monument and impress every tourist with its unchanged beauty. Throughout the centuries the edifice has been restored first in 1820 by the daughter of a local landowner and then between the years 1913 and 1930.
