Dorado Travel Guide, Puerto Rico

Located 17 miles west of San Juan, on the northern coast of Puerto Rico lays the charming town of Dorado, founded in the year 1842.

Dorado is host to a lot of famous hotels which include luxurious condos and facilities like: the Hyatt Dorado Beach Resort & Country Club and the Hyatt Dorado Regency Cerromar Hotel along with villas which unfold along the north shore of Puerto Rico, side to side with the white-sand beaches.

Friendly locals who treat you with respect and a clean environment make a simple walk in the town an enjoyable experience as everyone wants to keep everything tidy.

It is also the closest resort to the San Juan Metropolitan Area and hosts the largest outdoor pool in the Caribbean and some of the best golf courses of the island. Tourists enjoy themselves at day swimming in the excellent pools, playing golf in the large golf courses and the night life revolves around the Casinos hotel dining and dancing along with lots of artistic shows.

The seafood restaurants are yet another attraction of the island. They make one of the best shrimps and fried clams worldwide.

Rio La Plata is the one river which flows right through Dorado putting it at a small risk of flooding…with sugar! This sugar comes from the sugar plantations upstream, which in case of flooding will make the water sweet.

The two original Hyatt Dorado Beach golf courses, knows as east and west were carved out of a jungle and match the finest anywhere. They offer tight fairways bordered by trees and forests with lots of ocean holes. Later on, two new courses (north and south) were built but they are not so well known and noted. The golf courses hold all the luxuries imaginable.

The Dorado Del Mar Golf Club, located 20 miles west of San Juan is an 18-hole course has everything a professional golfer would want. From the 12 holes surrounded by water, 4 sets of tees and numerous bunkers to the stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and the tropical trade winds which can put even the best player into difficulty and it can even be lighted for a night game.

Along the north shore, near the 10th hole of the east golf course you can find the best place for water-sports on the island. It has experienced trainers who will help children and beginners learn surfing, swimming and windsurfing. There were no serious accidents reported in this location thus making it one of the safest water-sports resorts on the planet, the staff taking extra precautionary measures to insure that this record is kept.
