Szczecin Sights – Historical and Cultural Sites

Castle of the Pomeranian Dukes. This is one of the oldest and most beautiful attractions of Szczecin. The castle itself was built during the medieval times but was wrecked during the Second World War. The castle was rebuilt and it is now one of the cultural centers of the city. The details of the castle have Renaissance style of architecture. The site has a bell tower that stands at 58.6 meters and gives a panoramic view of the city. Cathedral Basilica of St. James. This church was established in 1187. It was devastated during World War II and was rebuilt in the 1970’s. It has a 6-ton bell which dates back from the late 1600’s. Within the grounds of the cathedral is a 15th century rectory.

Maiden’s Tower. This site is also called The Tower of the Seven Coats. It was constructed in the 14th century. Originally, it was a prison but after being damaged during the Second World War, parts of the tower were rebuilt in the 1970’s. Maiden’s Tower is now one of the most popular tourist spots of Szczecin.
