The city of Kraków happens to be situated in the country of Poland. Although the city of Kraków has always enjoyed the tag of being a capital city yet it has been dangling between different controls as time passed. The city of Kraków was the capital city for the country of Poland between the years 1038 and 1596. Later on between the years 1846 and 1918 the city of Kraków was the capital city for Grand Duchy of Kraków (which came into existence when the city of Kraków was included into Austria), and in 14th century the city became the capital for Kraków Voivodeship. This continued till the year 1999 but as of now the city of Kraków is the capital city for Lesser Poland Voivodeship. This reflects the participation of this city into the history of Kraków.
