Pagadian, Philippines - Overview: Little Hong Kong of the south

Known as the ‘little Hong Kong of the south’, Pagadian is very famous for flaunting the rolling terrain across the residential and commercial districts. It prides itself on being the greenest cleanest and largest city of Mindanao. The city is also the entry point to the cities of Iligan, Ozamiz and Cotabato. These factors add to make Pagadian a very lively city.

Climate & Topography

With its location in the tropical zone of the Northern Hemisphere, Pagadian has a dry season in the first quarter and a rainy season with moderate rainfall in the following one. However, there are no typhoons.

Due to the networks of mountains prevailing within the city, you can find sloping landscapes here and there. The topography is mixed as the northern part has sloppy terrains and the central region has gentle slopes. The south and east parts are almost leveled.

Culture

The energetic festivals and the warm hospitality, which the city possesses, are sufficient enough for surprising anyone. Understanding the local culture would only add more fun and enjoyment to your vacation. Many tourists pay a visit to Annual Fiesta on the third week of January to pay homage to patron Sto Nino. This grand event also includes the Zambulawan Festival. It showcases trade exhibits, sports competitions and beauty pageant. To add to the list is the Arawng Pagadian, which is celebrated on June 21. Its aim is to memorize the time when Pagadian became a chartered city. The Sur’s Annual anniversary is held on September 17.

How to reach Pagadian?

Pagadian is easily accessible due to the presence of all modes of transport, as buses run 24x7 from all the nearby and adjoining cities. To get there from Cotabato, you can also use water transport, as there are daily boat schedules. The Philippines Airlines serves as the aerial way to reach the city. In addition to these, railway networks are also available there. With several top hotels present in the city, Pagadian receives a good complement from all its visitors.

The tricycle

You can reach Pagadian by land, sea or air. However, nothing can match the experience of touring the city with its very unique tricycle. This is more than just an attraction, as it is one of the fewer means of transport where the local pride comes along with its valuable rides.

Take a tricycle, if you want to enjoy all the wonderful cultures and festivals in the Little Hong Kong of the South.
